Wrist Surgery

Just took off the dressing and am currently wearing a removable splint (yay for another super invention)

Here’s one for the record – had my very first surgery last week. And since it was my first, I was ABSOLUTELY terrified but the surgery went well as expected (at least, that’s what my surgeon said :D). Before I was rendered unconscious, I did manage to ask the anesthesiologist to confirm that I’ll wake up after the surgery (LOL) and he told me that not waking up only happens in the movies. *grin* So, how did this come about? Well, about two weeks ago, I fractured my left wrist when I fell off my bike and truly, you just don’t know how dependent you are on your hands until you can’t use them. Life as I know it ended (albeit temporarily) – can’t drive, can’t cook, can’t shower, can’t even wash my good hand by myself. In fact, I couldn’t do much of anything without help from Keith. Arrgh!!! Fast forward a little bit – had a screw put in my wrist to hold the break together so the bone could heal properly…not sure when I’ll be able to use my wrist normally again though. :P Will keep everyone posted!

  1. Woah! That’s awful. Please take care of yourself! Did the doctor give you an estimated recovery time? I hope it’s not too long.

I was under GA about a month ago and I had this weird feeling just as I was waking up. I was afraid to open my eyes in case I was still mid-way through the procedure… When I finally worked up the courage to peel my eyes open it was like “Hey, where’s everyone?” Haha.

    1. Hahaha…I was kind of worried about waking up mid-way too. When the nurse woke me up at the recovery room, I’m pretty sure the first thing I thought was, “It’s over?” I wasn’t even aware of the actual point when they put me to sleep. I guess that’s how it’s supposed to work. :D Hope you have totally recovered!

Hi Chris, Accidents do happen, so does healing. Except that the latter takes a lot more time than the former. Not a lot of fun and certainly a lot of discomforture in the healing process, but this too shall pass. Love you. Take care. If there’s any way we can assist please let us know. Dad

  3. That doesn’t look and sound good, Chris. I hope you are recuperating and will be back in the kitchen in no time at all :-D
Phew! Luckily it’s not your good hand… Stay well..

    1. Thanks, Isadora. I noticed the troubles you had leaving comments. I’ve actually been having a lot of problems with wordpress and Internet Explorer. Hopefully it’s just temporarily. :D

  4. Sorry to hear surgery was necessary. However, That should shorten the recovery time for you. Now you’ll be able to set off metal detectors. It’s really challenging working with one hand. Been there, done that! How did you manage to write your blog with one hand? Must have been challenging! Have a speedy recovery.
    Love you,
    Mom H

    1. Hahaha…I actually did ask the doctor the metal detector question before the surgery. He said it shouldn’t set off the alarm but you’d never know with technology advances in the future. The surgery definitely will allow for a speedier recovery than wearing a cast. Yay! :D

  5. Hope your wrist will heal soon, Christine….I fractured my right foot last September & was on cement cast for 2 months. Had to use the clutches for 10 weeks before I could walk without them.

    1. Ouch! I’m glad I don’t have to wear a cast. :D June, hope Aunt B is doing OK. Just heard the news from Nana. Will be praying for you all.

Would Love to Hear From You
