Banana Crunch Cake

This recipe, from the King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking book, showcases a delicious crunchy/chewy oats topping which contrasts nicely with the tender and moist banana cake. Although the cake turns out sturdier than its white flour counterpart, it is still light in texture – just how a cake should be. One of the reasons […]

Flower Painting

I love this flower painting project – it’s simple and quick and the result is bright and beautiful. I did have to remind Alex all the way to paint big. :) He enjoyed this activity tremendously.

Rolling Like a Pro

This week, we made Cheesy Ranch Chex Mix, Whole Wheat Double Fudge Brownies, and Wheat Thins. This was only the second time Alex had used a rolling pin but yet he was amazingly at ease with it. He did a great job rolling out the Wheat Thins dough. :)

Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries

Here’s what we did with the rest of the strawberries – they were dipped in melted Dove Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate. We dipped some dried apricots and pretzels as well. YUMMY!

Whole Wheat Double Fudge Brownies

We had managed to get another beautiful batch of strawberries at Sam’s Club right before Valentine’s Day. I decided to use some to top a few of these amazing-tasting Fudge Brownies. I would say that these brownies are definitely the best I’ve ever eaten so far (my husband just second me on that), and they […]

Fun in the Puddles

We got a brief break from winter today, hitting a high of 63. The day started out rainy and cloudy but eventually cleared up for a few hours in the afternoon. Almost all the snow melted and left huge puddles of water in low spots in our front yard. Below are pictures of Alex, donning […]

Turkey Chili

It took me a while to learn to appreciate chili, as I had never eaten anything like it when I was growing up. I remember making chili for the very first time a few years back and I had to ask my husband to taste it for seasonings because I had no idea then what […]

Chewy Oatmeal Decorating Cookies

I was searching for a simple cutout cookie recipe, something other than the classic sugar cookies. Of course, I turned to my old faithful whole grain baking book for this task. As I was flipping through the pages, this recipe’s introductory paragraph caught my attention. I quote, “Who says cutout cookies for decorating need to […]

Plum Sour Cream Muffins

I love muffins. They are quick and easy to whip up and make a great on-the-go breakfast or snack. This recipe comes from an all-time favorite book of mine – King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking. I have made a lot of baked goods from this book and they have consistently turned out moist, tender, […]
