Green Tea Ice Cream

Green tea ice cream topped with red bean paste
We have a favorite Japanese restaurant that we used to frequent (before Alex came along) that serves the most wonderful, delicious green tea ice cream we had ever tasted. I’ve always thought about trying to recreate the flavor (especially since we cannot find any similar ones from store-bought brands) but have never gotten around to it. Well, since we decided to make sushi for dinner the other day, I figured we couldn’t possibly have sushi without green tea ice cream for dessert. :) After scouring the web for a green tea ice cream recipe, I finally settled on the one from Food Network. The ice-cream turned out super-delicious, definitely rivals our restaurant favorite (actually, hubby thinks this one tastes even better) and beats any of the store-bought brands that we have tried hands down. The ice-cream was lusciously rich and creamy, with just the right amount of green tea flavor, and it was so simple to make. Give it try, you’ll love it!

2 cups heavy cream
2 cups half-and-half
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
9 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons green tea powder
